APC winning Okigwe Senate Bye-election without candidate
With the results flying around on the internet, the ruling All Progressives Congress APC, may be coasting to victory in the just concluded Okigwe Senate Bye-Election.
Interestingly, the party may be heading to victory, without a Candidate, as two court rulings have sacked both candidates of the party, in the persons of Senator Ifeanyi Araraume and Mr. Frank Ibezim.
An Appeal Court ruling on Friday 4th December 2020, a day to the election, upturned an earlier ruling by a Federal High Court, and made Ibezim the candidate of the party.
Interestingly, another court ruling from a Federal High Court Abuja, sitting on the same day, barred Ibezim from contesting any elections, accusing him of perjury.
By the two rulings, the APC went to the elections without a Candidate.
INEC has yet to declare the winner of the Okigwe Senate Bye-Election, and have yet to concretely confirm who the candidate of the APC, going into the election was.
Senator Ifeanyi Araraume is expected to head to the Supreme Court, to challenge the Appeal Court ruling removing him as the party’s candidate, while Ibezim is expected to appeal the High Court ruling, barring him from contesting any elections.
The situation in the Okigwe APC, might create an avenue for supposedly second place PDP, to grab the Okigwe Senate seat.
