The deplorable state of roads in Imo State at the moment cannot be overemphasized. Roads in Imo State have really turned to deathtraps as Imolites continue to suffer due to poor road network. Does Imo State really have a government? Is there someone handling the affairs of Ndi Imo at the moment? As a matter of fact, Imolites do not have hope that things will turn better as everything is at the moment. The only thing in the mind of every Imolite at the moment is that things have turned from worse to worst. What have Ndi Imo done to deserve these? Why have ndi Imo been so unlucky to get a competent government since the fourth republic? Why have past and present Imo Governors vowed never to construct standard roads and developmental projects to make life easy for Imolites. And we keep asking: What has gone wrong with the said 2019 approved RAMP in Imo State?
On 28th August, 2019, former Imo Governor, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha launched 13.5 billion naira road projects in Imo State. The World Bank assisted Rural Access and Mobility Project (RAMP) included 380.7 kilometers of the rural road across the 27 Local Government Areas of the state. The then Governor, Ihedioha said he approved the swift payment of the counterpart fund to activate the project upon assumption of the office. He sincerely decried the poor states of roads in the state and said the project will boost Agriculture and socio-economic development in the state and reduce rural-urban migration. He revealed his administration’s intention to revive the Imo Rural Roads Maintenance Agency (IRROMA), to ensure that no part of Imo State rural areas remained inaccessible due to bad roads. He assured Imolites that development will get to ALL parts of Imo State, with no discrimination or exclusions. There was much celebration and hope was very high as Imolites rejoiced for the approved 2019 RAMP. Everyone was expecting standard road constructions round Imo as the state has been in total decay and underdeveloped.
Since the emergence of the present Imo government, Imolites are yet to experience positive change or impact. All we continue to get daily are negative news and experiences. If it is not about maltreatment of Imo workers/pensioners, it will be that of Imo Lawmakers. If it is not about political war against opposition, it will be the continuous/unending political war with fellow party (APC) members. If it is not about insecurity, it will be about poor road network and pains of motorists. If it is not about using political thugs against the masses, it will be about the Governor’s Appointees causing unnecessary problems at their various areas of assignment. If it is not about using touts as Imo ENTRACO and OCDA to extort money from citizens – causing road accident and unnecessary frustration to citizens, it will be about Imolites passing through hell daily due to poor road network. Yet Imo Governor earlier preferred giving his whole attention to Edo politics, instead of doing well to deliver good governance to Ndi Imo.
As a matter of fact, the present Imo government has never met any of its positive expectations. Senator Uzodinma cannot stop to quote his doubters right by turning Imo State to a jungle. Imo is in total decay at the moment!
What has gone wrong with the approved 2019 RAMP in Imo State? Does Senator Uzodinma really have good plan for Imo State? What has the present government achieved so far with all the State and Local Government Allocations?
