The news waves was today the 22nd day of February 2021, filled with news of the collapse of Mr. Darlington Ibekwe, a close associate of former governor of Imo State, Senator Rochas Okorocha, while he was being arraigned in court.
Ibekwe, along with 13 other persons, were arrested alongside Senator Rochas Okorocha, when Okorocha broke the seal on his property along Akachi road.
The Imo State government, at the orders of Senator Hope Uzodinma, had sealed the premise of the Royal Spring Palm Hotels, belonging to the wife of the former governor, Nneoma Nkechi Okorocha.
Okorocha had gone to reclaim the property, and met violent resistance from thugs loyal to Hope Uzodinma, allegedly led by his Special Assistant on Special Duties, Chinasa Nwaneri.
The violence that ensued, saw Okorocha’s son inlaw, Uzo Anwuka injured, when he was allegedly shot at the leg by Uzodinma’s loyalists, while Okorocha was arrested by the police.
Ibekwe’s collapse I court, have raised serious questions, about his safety in detention.
Ibekwe made made several videos, which had been embarrassing to the government of the day, and was deemed as a target by people in power.
While some people claim his collapsing, was a gimmick, others wonder whether Ibekwe, who is a known enemy of the government, was maltreated and possibly tortured, causing him to collapse.
Ibekwe has been granted bail of N5million, which has yet to be met, but we may have to wait till he comes out, to reveal his experience in detention, and why he collapsed in court.
