Imo Prison Break: Drama as Escaped Prisoners Set to Sue Federal Government
Unconfirmed unformation floating on the social media, has it that escaped inmates of the Imo State Federal Correctional Facility, in Owerri, who fled during the attack on the facility by armed gunmen, may be gearing up to drag the Federal Government to court, for it’s inability to secure them.
The prisoners escaped from their facility on Monday 5th of April, 2021 following an attack which left several vehicles and property destroyed, and an unspecified number of casualty.
Several prisoners had stayed back after the attack, while some voluntarily returned days after, while the Imo State governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma, during a chat with Channels TV presenter, stated that others were talking with their lawyers, to ensure they were not prosecuted further, if they turned themselves in.
The new twist to the incident, which has the prisoners considering legal actions against the Federal Government, may be due to a lack of assurance of amnesty from the Government.
The former Inspector General of Police, Adamu had accused the Nnamdi Kanu led IPOB, of involvement in the attack, but Senator Hope Uzodinma have fingered aggrieved politicains, as the masterminds, with his Commissioner for Information Declan Emelumba practically accusing former governor, Senator Rochas Okorocha of masterminding the attack.
